Law 23 Comparable
So simple in theory but tricky at times.
I have read through quite a few articles, in all of those the players seem to play a strong 2S overcall but the people at my club play a weak 2S overcall.
So if the bid out of turn at RHO turn was 1S not accepted and RHO now opens 1H, what call would be comparable showing S and an opening hand.
It can't be 1S as it doesn't show an opening hand, neither 2S as that would show weak 6+S, 3S is even weaker and a 7+S suit. X would not be accepted as it might have the point count but has a wider meaning, the same would apply to 1NT.
Thanks,
Marion

Hi Marion
I play a 1S overcall is about 10-15 points which would IMO would be comparable (“near enough”) to the 1S opening of 11-19 (but I’m prepared to be corrected anyone?)
(note the difference at the top end doesn’t matter, “more precise” is always comparable)
However if 1S (or any higher spade overcall) DENIES opening values (meaning the range is ALWAYS below 11 or 12 points) then there is no comparable call available and whatever is bid partner will have to pass for one round.
cheers
Nick
