Volunteer of The Month
October 2018 - Tony Sutich.
A Great Contributor to Bridge in Wellington
Tony has been a very active member of both the Regional Committee since the time of its inception and its predecessor the Wellington Centre. Some two years ago, in spite of being very involved with the reconstruction of his own club, Kairangi, Tony agreed to take over as chairperson of the Wellington Regional Committee. Tony has been the Convenor of the Junior and Intermediate Leagues, Rubber Bridge and Interclub. And he has done it well.
Solely due to Tony's promotion work, on several occasions the Wellington region has been able to send two pairs to the Dan Gifford Rubber Bridge Championship at the National Congress as it had by far the highest number of pairs participating in the regional playoffs.

As convenor of the interclub competition in the region, Tony has also been responsible for its very high participation rates. This year 64 teams are participating. They are almost equally divided between Open/Open Restricted, Intermediate and Junior/Novice grades.
The net worth of the many hours of voluntary service Tony has given to the bridge community over the years is incalculable. Tony is a bridge enthusiast, but whatever the game has given him, he has repaid in spades. Earlier this year, Tony made the decision to stand down from the Committee,
All of us in the Wellington bridge community owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Tony for the work he has done for us over so many years.
As a token of our appreciation Tony is a very worthy ‘Volunteer of the Month’ for October 2018.
Congratulations.
