Sundays are Novice Days
Calling Novice Players.
What better way is there to spend a Sunday afternoon than playing bridge? Social Bridge, that is. That is the concept behind Auckland-Northland Regional Bridgemate, Jan France's, Social Sunday afternoon concept. The first such Sunday afternoon took place at the Royle Epsom Bridge Club, always a great place for a friendly game, on Sunday 16th September. It looks very much like the room-ful of Novice players were enjoying themselves.
Glasses of wine...and not a hand in sight. Well, perhaps they did play a few hands, too!
Indeed, they did. There were 10 tables of players from 7 different clubs playing 10 boards at a very comfortable pace. At the end, they received print outs showing what could be made on each of the hands. It seems like an excellent formula for our new players.
These were thew players who did well at the bridge, the prize-winners:
1st N/S Sarah and John Turbott
1st E/W Janene Salisbury and Belinda Perry
2nd N/S Sharon Scott and Sharon Nightingale
2nd E/W Mark and Carolyn Buckley
Prize for nearest 50% Elvie Locke and Hilary Scott
Jan's idea is to have a few such Sunday afternoons at different clubs from around the region.
Next up: Hibiscus. Sunday November 4th (1pm) at the Hibiscus Bridge Club, Ladies Mile, Manly, Whangaparaoa. If you are interested in going, or know someone who might, contact Jan France on
jan.france@nzbridge.co.nz or text her on 022 085 6102.
and calling all Novice players in the Waikato: Bay of Plenty and Auckland Northland Regions.
You may not have heard of the New Zealand National Bridge Congress. It starts very soon at the Distinction Hotel, Hamilton. One event, held on a Sunday afternoon, of course, is just for Novice players like yourselves. You play a session of bridge at a relaxing pace and then enjoy the very social side of the game afterwards. Be seated by 2.00pm on Sunday September 30th and enjoy and be part of a National Bridge Congress, playing against pairs of your own level.
You do not have to enter in advance but you can do so. Follow this link if you wish to pre-enter. The cost is $10.00 per player with the event being sponsored by Bridge New Zealand.
