The event is diviided into 4 categories:
National Junior Teams 25 and under
National Youngster Teams 20 and under
National Girls Teams 25 and under
National Kids Teams 15 and under
New Zealand (and Australia) will just be taking part in the National Junior Teams. The Junior and Youngster events have 22 teams, the Girls 15 and the Kids 18. The single Round Robin stage will consist of 14 board matches (12 in the Kids) with the top 8 qualifying for the knock-out stage. Non-qualifiers can play in the Transnational Board A Match Teams.
New Zealand's team consists of:
Brad Johnston and Nik Mitchell from Dunedin
Zachary Yan and Vincent He from Auckland
The non playing captain is Auckland's Douglas Russell.
Both Brad and Nik played last year in Youth Tests against Australia in Canberra and Hamilton though this will be their first international experience outside Australasia. Nik got Brad interested in Bridge when they were both at High School back in 2012. They started playing together in 2016. Brad is 23 and Nik is 22.
This will be a first international appearance for Zachary and Vincent who are both still students at Macleans College in Howick. They have started to make an impact on the New Zealand tournament scene, playing very regularly with respectible finishes in major tournaments. They are 16 and 18 respectively.
I am sure all readers wish the team well and will enjoy following the team's progress.
