Gold Coast Friday

No joy unfortunately for the Kiwis in the final stages of the Gold Coast Teams. In the Round of 4 Open event (the Round of 4 was for the teams finishing 3rd-6th in qualifying…the winners and the top 2 met in the semi-finals), Bouton, which included Vicki Bouton and Brad Johnston met an Australian team, Hirst in a 24 board match.

It started well for Bouton who led 40-12 after 12 boards but the tide turned with Hirst winning the second 12 by 48, primarily through three game swings. Hirst won 64-44.

The other Kiwis, Kinga Hajmasi, Andrew Michl, Barry and Jody Whale took part in the Intermediate final, a 4 set x 12 board match. Each team won two sets but the 21 imp loss for the Kiwis in the 3rd set proved to be the killer with Lohmann eventually beating Hajmasi 110-97.
