Volunteer of The Month
July 2017: Heather and Chris Jared
It is a great pleasure having joint nominations this month with the award going to husband and wife, Heather and Chris Jared. They have been long-time supporters of the Hutt Bridge Club in particular and of bridge in the Wellington area.
Heather is a Life Member, a former President (in 2011-2013) and a long time committee member of the Hutt Bridge Club. She has organised the directing roster and been a regular Tournament organiser both in advance and on the day of the events. When she has not been playing, she has always helped in respect of Inter-Club evenings. She also published the club’s regular newsletter “Finesse” for many years. She has also been on the Regional Committee and Regional Treasurer since 2010 and has been a very valuable member of that Committee during those seven years.
Chris is the technical, “behind the scenes” helper. He maintains the club’s database and scoring programme and is always on call for any technical issues that might arise. In addition, he helps and scores at tournaments and, like Heather, helps with Inter-Club and with the scoring at the annual Wellington Congress. He has also helped New Zealand Bridge itself with the master-point programme well before the current Secretary, Alister Stuck, to the days when Fran Jenkins was the Secretary.
Regional Chairman, Tony Sutich, Heather, Chris and Hutt Club President John Swinson.
Not just at club but at Regional level, Heather and Chris continue to give of their time and energy for bridge. As such, they are worthy recipients of this month’s award.
Eagle eyed readers will note that the certificate is dated June 2017. As Heather and Chris have been overseas, we had to delay the presentation to them. We will return with another volunteer presentation in August.
