Volunteer of The Month

May 2017. Heini Lux - Rotorua

Heini has been a member of the Rotorua Club for over 30 years. He has been a President of the Club, is currently a Vice President and has served on the committee for many years. His work for the club has included catering for tournaments (an extension of his restauranteur background). He has assisted for many years with the Learners Class, and actively mentors promising players to improve their skill levels. He is unfailing courteous at the table and provides support for all activities requiring club member input, whether it be a working bee or support for players or an activity that promotes Bridge and the element of having fun. He was elected a Life Member at the 2016 AGM and is thoroughly deserving of Volunteer of the Month award.

Rotorua Club President, Alan Dick (left) presents Heini with his certificate and something with which to celebrate the occasion.

Paul Cosgrove, a current Committee member, described Heini's wide-ranging attributes very succintly "life member, former president, runs the bar! cooks meals for tournaments, does the recycling and always behaves impeccably at the table."

The last of these is a most valuable attribute to have for a club member. It is always a pleasure to play bridge against an opponent who is polite, friendly and courteous whether he wins or loses.

He is a long standing tournament player, and has the rare distinction of  attending all 31 New Zealand National Bridge Congresses.

Congratulations, Heini.
