PROMISCUITY AND BRIDGE
Gottcha! Rangiora Bridge Club celebrated its 50th anniversary over the weekend of 24th – 26th March. It was a huge success with a Mix and Mingle on the Friday evening of 60 current and former members, some travelling from Australia and Auckland. The Friday evening also saw the release of the club’s history written by a member and which was pre-ordered by 58 members. Saturday was ‘fun’ bridge in the afternoon, a ‘time tunnel’ or ‘through the ages’ 23 board event. There was one ‘shuffle and deal’ board ( changing at every table) oral bidding, silent bidding, bidding boxes, and tablets. One board used tournament screens. Saturday evening a magnificent buffet dinner attended by over 100 with speeches, toasts and entertainment. The AnniversaryPairs were won by Jenny and Peter Story.

History of Rangiora Oscar Classy Player Oscar Presenters
All this was preceded on the Monday afternoon (23 tables) and Wednesday evening (18 tables) sessions with the Acol [Acol Convention Outstanding Luminaries] Oscar presentations – 10cm edible gold painted chocolate Oscars in eight categories - including the male and female players who had the most partners in the previous twelve months – the promiscuity Oscar! The members embraced this occasion by dressing up and bow-ties were mandatory for the gentlemen. We had two double Oscar recipients and Oscars were presented with ‘Simply the Best’ pounded out by Tina Turner.
