New Zealand Beaten in semi finals at NEC Championships

A New Zealand team reached the semi final in the NEC Cup, a prestigious tournament being played currently in Yokohama, Japan. 53 teams took part in the qualifying stages which consisted of 12 matches over three days.

The New Zealand team of Ashley Bach- Michael Cornell, Peter Newell - Martin Reid finished the qualifying rounds in 4th place with the top 8 qualifying. Their vp score was 144.85,  3.12 VPs ahead of 9th place.

The top 4 get choice in the 32 board knock-out quarter-finals, which meant New Zealand got no choice and will play the 5th ranked Japanese team, SARA. The semi-final is also 32 boards with the final, on Saturday 64 boards. The winning team will collect US$12,000 and the prestige that goes with it.

The Kiwis beat SARA 78-48 in the quarter final but were well beaten by HACKETT (Paul and Jason Hackett, Brian Senior and Alex Hydes) in the semi-final.
