Volunteer of The Month
Helen Edwards, Paraparaumu.
This month, we focus on a club member who according to its Committee, has made “a contribution which far exceeds reasonable expectations.” Let’s take a look at the contribution made by Paraparaumu member, Helen Edwards. Over then to committee member, Dennis Lahman:
“Helen gives our club many hours of her expertise and time. She has been giving wonderful voluntary service to our club since 2002 and currently she is performing the following roles/tasks for the club:
Helen being presented her award by retiring Paraparaumu President, Ian Nicholls
Scoring Manager, who manages, trains, monitors and mentors our scorers for both local events and tournaments.
Director, for many club sessions throughout year.
Handicap Committee Member, assisting with the setting of handicaps for all our members for our club handicap events.
Bridgemate coordinator, carrying out maintenance, updating, problem solving and full system testing after updates to the Bridgemates.
Web site data, ensuring all web site general information is correct. Annually she sets up the new year’s programme ensuring everything matches up with Programme Book. She ensures local competition results are correct and that club members’ phone numbers and addresses both physical and electronic are maintained accurately.
Information distribution, distributing newsletters and other information to all members via email, post or other appropriate means.
Willing Volunteer, for any other roles/tasks that need to be carried out during year including the mundane ones that other people tend to avoid.
She does find time to play too, even if she is scoring.
Helen is always proactive and willingly takes on both the technical challenges and the many other day to day tasks that are required to be done. In essence she is an extremely valued and important member of our club. Without her willing, get stuck in approach, the efficient running of our club would be greatly compromised.
The Paraparaumu Bridge Club committee believes that Helen Edwards epitomises the definition of this award and therefore have no hesitation in nominating her for this well-deserved recognition by New Zealand Bridge.”
