International Flavour in Dargaville

October 15th saw the Kauri 5A Pairs played in Dargaville. This is an event which historically attracts quite a few out of towners to Dargaville and this year was no exception. At the end of the day we had clear winners and this year it was Carlos Pellegrini and Rodrigo Garcia da Rosa . They are from Argentina and Uraquay respectively and arrived in New Zealand after playing in Poland. They played in the New Zealand National Congress, where their team reached the last 16 of the New Zealand Teams  and before leaving made it to the Winterless North to take out this popular event. Normally the winners are allowed the trophy for the year but in this case....

Rodrigo and Carlos with the splendid trophy which is presented to the winner of Dargaville's Open Pairs each year. Thanks to local player, Peter Simpkin, all the winners are given a small Kauri tree as well but I think the trees would not have fitted into Rodrigo and Carlos' luggage.

Towai Challenge

The following weekend Whangarei hosted the Towai Challange. This is a competition between Whanagrei and Kerikeri held each year. Both clubs provide two teams of each grade and the challange begins. I am sorry to report this year Kerikeri were the winners on the day. Congratulations to the teams from Kerikeri as below.

Dargaville champions The North in New Zealand Wide Pairs

We are pleased to report Dargaville produced two pairs in the top 20 placings in the Babich Wines New Zealand Wide Pairs. Peter Ball and Pam Rope came a very exciting 7th and Viv Nisbet and Sue Jensen 13th. They have won the prizes for the highest two scores below Open in the event. A huge achievement from such a small club.

All square in Inter- Club

The Interclub between the Northland clubs has heated up with a Knock Out round having to be played in the first time anyone currently playing can remember. Both Whangarei and Kerikeri had 4 wins and 1 loss so a finale is required.  This will hopefully be played this weekend so WATCH THIS SPACE.

Thanks to so many

Last, but not least, a big thank you to all of those people who have given their time and efforts over the past year to their respective clubs. Without the volunteers, commitee members, office holders and sponsors we couldnt continue to operate and everything you do is appreciated.

Come see us in Kerikeri January 7th and 8th for the Holiday Pairs.
