Volunteer of The Month
Bet Glengarry – Motueka
This nomination has come from the Motueka Bridge Club. Over to club Secretary, Chris Sutton.
“Our club would like to nominate Bet for an award acknowledging the work she does for our club and in promoting the game of Bridge.
There were her years spent on the Club Committee, firstly as a committee member, then Vice-President, a term as President and the last three years as Immediate Past President.
For a number of years, she has given of her time to take, manage and organise Beginners Lessons at the club. This was a huge commitment. She ensures that there are always new players to sustain the membership, so vital for a small club. She not only provides the vehicle to promote our game but her love of the game is infectious too. She is fiercely protective of her learners and suggests ways Club members can make their transition to the club night as “stress- free as possible.” She started organizing and taking the learners’ lessons after she recovered from a fall near St Arnaud while tramping and was airlifted out with a damaged heart. She is an amazing resilient person probably because she was brought up on Southland swedes. Bet played most of her bridge in Whangarei before moving to Motueka.

When the club is not running lessons, Bet gives of her time to run a once a month Eureka night covering a topic of interest like, for example, “playing teams”. She also is part of a small team who deal the cards for club nights, sometimes single-handed.
Her support is immeasurable. It gives us a great deal of pleasure to nominate Bet for this award.”
Thanks to the Motueka Committee for nominating Bet, the kind of person who is so valuable to every club. It is a pleasure to have Bet as the Volunteer for September 2016.
