LATEST NEWS RE NATIONAL CONGRESS

The National Congress is Nearly Here (Sat 24th Sep-Sat 1st Oct)

In less than one week, we will abandon our normal lives and focus on the National Bridge Congress. The really good news is the number of entries. We now have about 650 registrations for the whole or part of the Congress, well up on last year's 610.

We would love to see all of you for as much of the Congress as you can spare. Firstly, though, a reminder.

Hotel Renovations

We have mentioned that the 300 and 400 wings are to be completely renovated. There are less rooms available this year. So please book now.  Click here to book. Thursday September 29th and Friday September 30th are fully booked. We will help you where we can. All those reservations already made are definitely confirmed. There is no need to double check.

Remember the changes for this year.

Free wifi throughout the hotel.

Better security in and around the hotel including the closing off of the rear entrance.

Improved breakfasts at the hotel: more variety.

Calling Junior and Intermediate Players.

Remember you have your own events on Thursday September 29th, Friday September 30th and Saturday 1st October. The National Congress is about all grades of players. Play in all 3 Intermediate / Junior events for $200 or just try one for either $50 (NZ Intermediate/Junior Pairs) or $75 ( Intermediate/ Junior Teams or Swiss Pairs). Take a look. Enter any time up to Congress, basically up to an hour before the events start. If you need a partner or teammates, we may be able to help you. Please click here.

Two jobs: Enter and pay

Remember you have two jobs to do on the website. Entering events and paying for your entry whether full Congress, part Congress packages or individual events are two separate steps.

You can still enter most events at the Congress itself but you must enter New Zealand Pairs and New Zealand Restricted Pairs in advance, preferably on-line or if you prefer, through the Congress brochure.

Novice Pairs

We do not expect anyone to fly from say Invercargill or Golden Bay just for a one session Novice Pairs on Sunday 25th September. However, if you play at a club within realistic reach of Hamilton (especially “in” Hamilton), please ensure those new to our game are aware of their opportunity to enjoy the Congress experience:

1 session… played with others of their level…among a room full of around 400-500 players…fabulous atmosphere. Get them hooked. Please tell them about the Novice Pairs.

National Youth Teams

Come on you under 30’s. We had a great day for this event at last year’s Congress. Friday September 23rd is the date for this year’s. We have 10 teams entered for this event.

See you there, I hope.
