Kiwi Victory in US Nationals

Kiwi Success at NABC (North American Bridge Championships) in Phoenix

Congratulations to Pamela Nisbet from Dunedin who has won the 4-session Whitehead Women’s Pairs at the NABC Championships in Phoenix with her regular Canadian partner, Brenda Bryant. They have had successes in Canada and have represented Canada in Women’s bridge but this is their first success in an American National.

Brenda, South, led three rounds of diamonds, the third round ruffed by Pamela with Heart-small10 and over-ruffed by the declarer. Next came a losing spade finesse after which Pamela cashed her 3 top clubs. Whatever the declarer did, the third round promoted a trump trick for Brenda with the defenders picking up a 90% board for beating the contract by three tricks.

Also in Phoenix is Michael Whibley, who playing with his Australian partner, Nabil Edgtton, finished 11th out of 110 tables  in the Blue Ribbon Pairs. Meanwhile, former Kiwi, Ishmael Del’Monte, was in the team which won the Soloway Knock-Out Teams with a come-from behind 126-120 imp victory in the final. Ishmael has 4 National US titles, the last being back in 2013.
